Pathways

The Pathways Department provides extensive careers and pathways support to students from Year 7 to Year 12. Each year, students complete or amend their Career Action Plan which explores their strengths, interests, and preferred learning styles. Students set goals and in the later years begin researching future career pathways through individual career counselling appointments with our qualified Careers Practitioners. During Year 12 all students finalise their Career Action Plan and with the assistance of our Careers Practitioners discuss, plan and implement their future pathway, whether it be further study or employment.

The College delivers careers activities at all secondary year levels, giving the students the opportunity to develop essential skills for the world of work. Some of the opportunities delivered at the college include:

  • My Career Insights – at Year 9, students use the Morrisby online assessment tool which enables them to learn more about their strengths and abilities and about what career pathways are tailored to these
  • Year 9 students participate in a Mock Interview program where students learn application letter and resume writing, and undertake a mock interview to develop their interviewing skills
  • Year 10 students are offered the option to undertake Work Experience. Students source a work placement and complete a week of employment, in order to develop their work readiness skills and gain an understanding of the world of work
  • University and TAFE campus experiences. The college has a formal partnership with Monash University’s Schools Access Monash (SAM) program, RMIT’s Schools Network Access Program (SNAP) and also with Federation University. Through these partnerships, we offer students opportunities to visit the campuses and learn more about what is on offer.

The Pathways office is located in a stand alone building between C12 and C17, and students have access to the Careers Practitioners through an open-door policy throughout the year.

Our aim is to provide you with all the latest information that will help you make decisions about your future career and your life beyond school. You can use our Careers website to locate Universities, TAFE and any other type of course across Australia, get information about the VCE courses in the Senior School, search for job vacancies and much more. Please feel free to drop into the careers centre Pathways office if you have any questions.

School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships (SBATs) are an employment-based learning pathway designed for students in senior secondary school. Students combine their senior school years with paid part-time employment and skills training in a dedicated field.

Head Start teams are based in government schools across Victoria and provide wrap-around support for SBAT students whilst completing their senior schooling.

Students can join the Head Start program by talking to their school’s career practitioner, who will connect them with their Head Start team. The team will work with the student to find an employer.
