Yesterday’s Archery Attack day was an absolute blast!
As part of their VET Sport and Recreation studies, students had the chance to take part in a practical recreation activity that was fast-paced, competitive and a lot of fun.
Students started by learning the basics of archery, including safe equipment use, shooting technique and aiming, before moving into a range of team games and challenges. Archery Attack combines traditional archery skills with dodgeball-style gameplay using specially designed foam-tipped arrows, so there was plenty of running, dodging, strategising and friendly competition throughout the day.
The activity gave students a great opportunity to experience firsthand how recreation sessions are organised and conducted, while developing teamwork, communication, participation and safety awareness.
Two of our teachers also joined in the action, which added another level of fun and competition to the day — and it’s fair to say the students were more than happy to test their skills against the staff, and vice versa!
Most importantly, all students represented Narre Warren South P-12 College impeccably throughout the day. Their behaviour, participation and respect for staff, instructors and each other were outstanding.
Experiences like this are a great example of what VET Sport and Recreation can offer beyond the classroom. We’re hoping to build more practical excursions and industry-based experiences into the course, with the aim of making these opportunities a more regular and established part of the program in future years.
It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved and enjoying something a little different. A great practical learning experience, with plenty of laughs, some very accurate shooting and a few memorable moments along the way!
