On Monday 20th July, our two Year 12 VCE Physics classes visited the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton.
Students toured the facility and explored concepts from the VCE Physics course through practical activities, including Young’s double-slit experiment, the photoelectric effect and atomic emission spectra.
Students also discovered how synchrotron technology is used in the real world. Examples included imaging that revealed a hidden artwork beneath a Degas painting and medical research investigating lung function and medication for premature babies.
The excursion provided students with an engaging opportunity to see how the physics concepts studied in class are applied to cutting-edge scientific research.
