A-League club Melbourne City FC, in partnership with Federation University, has launched the Melbourne City Institute of Sport and Business (MCISB) offering students a new pathway to university qualifications and a career in sport. This initiative – which begins with an intake for a March 2025 student cohort – offers students a one-year Diploma of Business and Sports Management, combining Melbourne City FC’s elite sports environment with Federation University’s academic rigor, designed to kickstart careers in sport, business, and beyond.
The MCISB diploma, powered by Federation University, provides a holistic approach to education, combining foundational business studies with exclusive, hands-on experience – with the goal to enable students to gain the skills and knowledge to manage people, build networks, and lead teams in sport – providing:
- Elite Learning Environment: Program is conducted at Melbourne City FC’s City Football Academy, ctrl:cyber Campus at Casey Fields – a brand-new, state of the art professional football facility.
- Gain Practical Experience: Students gain up to 100 hours of practical experience, shadowing and working alongside Melbourne City professionals across different departments, from sports management and marketing to event coordination and digital media.
- Create Career Opportunities: Graduates will be considered for two guaranteed entry-level roles within Melbourne City FC each year, creating direct pathways into the industry. In addition to the diploma qualification, graduates are awarded a full year of academic credit toward multiple articulation pathways at Federation University, including the Bachelor of Business degree, allowing them to continue seamlessly into a second year of a degree if they choose to pursue further study.
- Football Development Program: For aspiring footballers, an optional offering within the program provides A-League academy-level training alongside their studies.
